The Different Methods of Removing Unwanted Hair

Nobody likes unsightly body hair. You know the kind I am talking about the thick, dark, protruding hair in the most inconvenient of places that is just stubborn and hard to get rid of. Luckily there are now many ways you can go about removing this hair. Thanks to ever improving technology, we now have more than just the option of shaving.

Bleaching

For those who are lucky enough to have thin, dark hair you can using bleaching. Its not technically considered a hair removal method, but it works just as well. This method is great if you are trying to hide hair on your neck, arms, or face. What you do is apply the chemicals from your bleaching kit to the area you need lightened, when you do this you are removing the pigments from the hair. Rinse well with water and voila!

Plucking and Waxing

To actually remove the hair, there are physical hair removal options such as plucking and waxing. These methods do not change the color or how much hair you actually have. But because you have pulled the hair out from the root, it does take a long time for the hair to grow back. If you wax or pluck enough times, you may actually damage the hair follicles and prevent them from growing hair entirely.

One method that is rising in popularity is sugar waxing. It is basically the same concept as traditional waxing only instaed of hot wax you use a sugary substance that resembles caramel. Once the hairs crystalize in the substance, a cloth strip is use to rip the hair out in the opposite direction. Since the sugar is not hot, it does not hurt as much because blood does not come to the surface of the skin. Another bonus is that the clean up with sugar waxing is easier than traditional waxing. All you have to do is rinse with water and the substance easily wipes away.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal technique that involves inserting a small needle into each individual hair follicle. Because this needle is electrified, it destroys the growth tissue. Because it is very precise, it is a good option for small areas such as eyebrows.

You will need several sessions in order to be successful. But if you do this, electrolysis is usually able to permanently remove hair about 90% of the time.

Laser Hair Removal

A newer method of permanent hair removal is laser hair removal. Over the past few years laser hair removal has really blossomed thanks to a better understanding of laser technology. Something to keep in mind is that while for some people this method does help them achieve permanent hair removal, this is not true for everyone.

Most lasers are used to target melanin, a chemical in your hair follicals. So they act basically like a search and destroy procedure, the laser burns anything with melanin, the more melanin the more hair removed. This is why laser treatment works best for light skinned people with dark hair. As with electrolysis the removal treatments will need to be repeated unitl you achiee the desired result. While this may not permanently remove your hair, it does slow the growing back process.

If you are looking for the safest way to remove unwanted hair, the best option is to visit a salon and have the hair professionally removed. Your technician can give you tips for avoiding problems such as ingrown hairs or raw skin.
